Grecian urn in the background

Quotation of the century: "What on earth would I do if four bears came into my camp? Why, I would die, of course. Literally [poop] myself lifeless. I would blow my sphincter out my backside like one of those unrolling paper streamers you get at children's parties--I daresay it would even give a merry toot--and bleed to a messy death in my sleeping bag." --A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson

vets are threats?
I am in Bones heaven.
Name that tune and artist without googling it: "She is all that I have left, and music is her name."
Quotation of the day from the US Department of Homeland Security Intelligence Assessment dated 7 April 2009: "
Disgruntled Military Veterans: DHS/I&A assesses that rightwing extremists
will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to exploit
their skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat. These
skills and knowledge have the potential to boost the capabilities of extremists—including lone wolves or small terrorist cells—to carry out violence. The willingness of a small percentage of military personnel to join extremist groups during the 1990s because they were disgruntled, disillusioned, or suffering from the psychological effects of war is being replicated today.
...DHS/I&A assesses that the combination of environmental factors that echo
the 1990s, including... returning military veterans, ...may be invigorating rightwing extremist activity, specifically the white supremacist and militia movements. To the extent that these factors persist, rightwing extremism is likely to grow in strength.
I think this quotation speaks for itself, but really I can't resist commenting. War veterans are potential threats to national security?! Come on... Read the whole report. You'd think we could focus our energies on real threats to national security--they come from outside our country, not inside it. Yep, such as those groups whose whole goal in life is to kill us all.
I hate politics.

death in the townhouse *house spoilers*
- Here is my little townhouse. It is the skinny one with blue shutters toward the top of the picture, that looks like it is getting squished by the mammoths on either side of it. If I have it my way, I will die in my bed on the third floor someday.
- I like Dr. Lawrence Kutner. He is dead. A tribute:
- I like Adam Lambert. He is not dead. He is androgyny at its finest. Jerry says Adam can solve the financial crisis with his voice.

Monsters vs. Aliens *spoiler alert*

- I went to see Monsters vs. Aliens by myself. It was good, but not really, really good. I went to hear Hugh Laurie as Dr. Cockroach (whose Ph.D. is in dance). Hearing Hugh was worth it in itself. I also enjoyed Insectosaurus and the fact that all the women were pear-shaped. Spoiler: the monsters win.
- Word of the day: sniffy
- Vitamin D report: still downing the supplements, lying out in the sun. Progress is made.
