I Mind You Minding My Non-Open Mind, Mind

  • I had to change offices today. No more window, alas. Still very glad to have my own office tho. Beats the heck out of a government cubicle.

  • Dirty Sexy Money is good. Bionic Woman is not.

  • I keep trying to watch South Park with an open mind. "People" keep telling me that it's really really good. To that I say, "Bah!" Every time I watch, all I see is crassness and vileness only for crassness's and vileness's sakes. Last night was an episode about Tourette's Syndrome. What a cliche and unoriginal theme. Perfect vehicle for crassness and vileness. If it was All That, it would have at least approached the topic in an original, creative way. I saw no sign of that whatsoever. South Park approached it in a completely predictable, vile, and crass way. Cheap. Somebody send me one shred of evidence that this show is worth more than a pile o' poo.
  • Wow, I just read Stephen Fry's 27 September blog entry. Makes me highly regret my three or so approaches (letters mainly) I have made to famous people. Makes me want to stay far far away from anyone even remotely famous. Human interaction is so fraught with problems. You can't go wrong by avoiding people for the most part. Extroverts are mysteries to me.

South Park is a brilliant show that brilliantly criticizes the so called elite of the world and informs them that they are not as cool as they think they are. The show also is an excellent social satire that helps those who view life as depressing and hard, cope and laugh at his or her mundane existence. I sincerely pity those who would rather watch Dirty Sexy Money that offers nothing but a cheap thrill. I do admit, however, that South Park is not for those people who pretend to be above such things.

I am all for vile and crass if it has some redeeming value. (Take the Simpsons for instance.) If South Park's redeeming value is its "social satire", (translation: trashing everything and everyone)then I prefer to pretend to be above such things. You have convinced me: it is not for me.

Still, I am open minded. I will continue to wait for some bit of South Park that appeals to my elite self.

In the mean time, I will bask in the glow of your ever-so-humble pity for me.

You cannot judge a show that has been on the air for more than a decade by watching one episode. I am glad your highness is still open minded.

I have Dr. Who on the way via Blockbuster by the way...
