of mice and Palin

Here are some pics of the Palin rally right near our house. Jerry and Rebekah attended. Rebekah was so excited and loved it. Isn't Sarah Palin lovely in every way? That is a RHETORICAL question, by the way. [Picture courtesy my friend Eva McGann. Note the new link to her blog in my link list.]

trip to Utah

I went to Utah. A bunch of girlfriends and I got together. Here is a picture of just the four of us who graduated the same year: Sarah, Lindy, Jan, and me
Roses are red,
Violets are blue;
I squished a loaf of bread
And so should you

Madison's first tooth fell out into my hand while I was visiting. A great honor for me. Here she is toothlesser and quite a bit traumatized at having permanently lost part of her body.
Here is doe-eyed Lexi painting her own fingernails.
Here are me and Sierra. She's the most sweet and gentle person I know.
Here are my dad, Madison, and Sierra:

I don't feel like naming it

Here is a short video from Rebekah's chorus concert last night. She is the blond ponytailed one in the middle.

  • I am flying to Utah today.
  • I ran 6 miles in the dark and cold wind. With a cold in the head and chest. Yay me. Unwise but daring.

Coating Ceremony

Here are pictures and video from Rebekah's coating ceremony. She will use this lab coat for the next four years at the Academy of Science, which both she and Aubrey attend on alternating days with their regular high school. The Nobel Laureate Dr. Thomas Cech was the keynote speaker.

homecoming pictures

Here are pictures of the girls before the homecoming dance. They both went with a group of people rather than a date. The captions are below each picture.

It's embarrassing how badly Stone Bridge football beats its opponent each week, never allowing the other team to score at all. Last year they won the state championship.

Mad Men

Betty, Joan, Peggy
Don

  • I discovered Mad Men a few months ago. AMC shows lots of reruns, so in that time I have been able to catch up on the entire second season. I was happy to see that it won the Emmy for best drama series. Emphasis on DRAMA. It has its light moments, but even the light moments strike the viewer as serious and sometimes disturbing. It is not a show for the faint of heart, as it is a heavy social commentary.

  • I've added another character to my fave characters list: Peggy Olson. Fascinating. The actress who plays her, Elisabeth Moss, is so talented. (And of course Joan is just so fun to look at. And Don is too, come to think of it.) I want to rent the first season and see all the particulars about Peggy's mental illness and pregnancy, the relationship between Don and Peggy, and how exactly Peggy came to get her present job. It was so delightful to watch her succeed a little bit in the most recent two episodes.

  • The discussion on the message boards is so deep and intelligent. It can't be otherwise, cuz if you ain't smrat, you ain't gonna be watchin' Mad Men. That's why ise watchin'. Cuz I'm smrat.

  • Mad Men also won the Emmy for best opening sequence or whatever you want to call it. I never get tired of watching it. Here it is.

pain practice

  • So I started training for a 5K yesterday. It will be on Thanksgiving Day. I hope to run it at a decent speed (for me). I think that training is really only pain practice. "OK, today you can take a little more pain than you did yesterday, I know you can! Now go go go!" And off I go. What is wrong with me?

  • I am thinking of making a playlist to listen to when I run the 5K. So far I have "Spice Up Your Life" by the Spice Girls, "Every time We Touch" by Cascada, and "Marathon" by Rush. Pretty eclectic. I am imagining the Spice Girls jamming with Rush. Wow, what a visual. Anyway, I am available to audition any other playlist candidates that wish to apply.
