- Warning: the below might sound like cynicism, but then again it might not.
- I am obsessed with serial killers. Jerry just bought me this book called Serial Killers by Brian Innes. I can't wait to dive in. The book was published slightly before my favorite serial killer, Dennis Rader, was caught. He is also known as BTK (bind torture kill). I think I have read everything there is to read about him. I would love to have an interview with his ex-wife. And then there's Silence of the Lambs--ah! But truth is even stranger than that fiction. And fiction is pretty strange.
- Why am I obsessed with serial killers? The same reason anyone is, I guess: I wonder how a person gets to that point? What is his motivation, inside and out? Do they all have something in common? Dennis Rader said the thing that they have in common is "Factor X."
- I also like the idea that there are plenty of potential serial killers out there who just haven't become/will never become kinetic serial killers. I say "out there," but they are rather "in here": in our circle of people we meet, walk by, see in the grocery store. Instead of fulfilling their ultimate fantasies, they in their cowardice just stick to abuse of humans and serial killing of animals.
- How can we hold faith in the goodness of humanity when these people are among us? The answer is that we must put it out of our minds using those oh-so-useful defense mechanisms. Happy happy joy joy peace. I could go on and on...

I must confess that I too wonder about serial killers and what makes them do what they do. I was obessesed with Scott Peterson during the whole Lacey Peterson thing. He wasn't a serial killer that we know of. I kind of think that Amber Fry got lucky b/c I have a feeling she would have been next. I find it amazing how people can seem so normal...just like Dennis Rader...he was very involved with his CHURCH for pete's sake. How are we blind to these things? How do these people pull the wool over our eyes? I wonder if I would have been sucked in by Scott Peterson just like Amber and Lacey were. How about the women who go to the prisons and marry these guys or have conjugal relations with them? That is facinating to me too!
I have to say that I am highly fascinated with serial killers. Great blog. I am at most fascinated with the zodiac killer mainly because he was never caught. He got away with it. The movie is R but I wait for it to be released on TV someday. I also am interested in BTK because he is such an idiot. If he had just left it alone he would have gotten away with it. He just had to send that letter and after the technology gets more advanced. It had been SO long since he had killed and he was a church man. He could have gotten away with it. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he was caught but I think, DUH IDIOT. I like to watch In the Mind of a Serial Killer on the discovery channel. Very interesting stuff. I am also fascinated by cannibalism. What makes a person get that to that point to where they feel they need to eat someone else? Interesting topic sis!
